After skiing on the course Friday at 6 Pm to 6:30 Pm, I am going with a much harder wax. Don't let Saturday's forecast for sunny and a high of 50F fool you. When the sun went down at 6 PM and it got dark, any surface moisture immediately froze. So even though air temps might be around 40F, it is going to be a race surface of ice pellets. There basically isn't going to be any snow left on the lake to groom. The 'snow' will be ice chips over a solid ice sheet (be aware of the glare ice under the chipped ice race surface when skating). A hard base wax like HF6BWX or HF5BWX is necessary for wear from the very abrasive ice surface.
